.САЙТ and .ОНЛАЙН came to Moscow…

…for the big Registry-Registrar day

The second part of the “Presentation of the new domains in Cyrillic .САЙТ .ОНЛАЙН to our eventual partners” took place on September 27th, 2013, in Russia. Moscow welcomed us with unexpectedly good weather and polite and open to work people.

At the meeting were invited representatives of one of the largest registrars in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Again the TOPIC was about the new domain names in Cyrillic .САЙТ and .ОНЛАЙН.

We started with an overview of CORE, our offices in Barcelona, Geneva and and our team. Right after that, our Chief Policy Advisor Amadeu Abril i Abril presented “How CORE started and the beginning of the new domains in Cyrillic”.

CORE has, among its guiding principles, that the DNS is not only a technical service and  a commercial opportunity, but also must serve the public interest. In this regard, we have beеn pushing for IDNs since 2000, as it is a critical feature for large parts of the World where Latin characters are familiar only to the local elites. This is why when the new gTLD Program arrived, CORE decided to go in full force for IDN gTLDs the two presented here in Cyrillic and also one in Arabic script.

We continued with our policies, rules and the launch period for registering the new domains in Cyrillic .САЙТ and .ОНЛАЙН. Of course the biggest interest arised the topics “transliteration”, “Pioneers program”, “prices” during the sunrise and the so called “general registration” period (the regular prices)  and they were among the most discussed points. Amadeu Abril i Abril stoped to speak only to listen carefully to the questions and observations of the registrars. Of course, he did not forget his sense of humor that  detented the serious themes. “It’s time for coffee breaks. First-come-fist-serve, sooo let’s go.”, he said.

We ended with presenting our marketing plans. We will be focused to the end user as well as to our partners/registrars. We are in the beginning of preparing an Educational Campaign for all of you, that are on the other side of the computer.
